South Kolkata’s Netaji Nagar police recovered the decomposed body of 75-year-old Ashutosh Das on Monday morning after residents reported a strong foul odor from his four-storey residence. Das, a prosperous printing business owner, had been living alone since the death of his wife and was known to possess significant assets. His son and daughter reside in Delhi and Australia respectively.
Local residents alerted authorities after noticing the stench emanating from the house early Monday. Police arrived at the scene, broke open the door, and found the body in an advanced state of decomposition. Investigations revealed that Das had been living alone for the past two years. No immediate cause of death has been established.
The police have registered a case and are conducting further inquiries to determine the exact cause of death. Officials continue to investigate whether any foul play was involved or if natural causes led to Das’s demise. The matter remains under active investigation.
